Feb 21Vacation Snapshots: Rome

Hello friends! I’d love to share a few images and thoughts from our trip to Rome. Would you like to hear? I hope so…

Beyond Athens and Amsterdam, I’d never explored anywhere in Europe so seeing the old architecture and learning about the history was simply fascinating! We arrived Tuesday morning and after a quick shower we were off exploring! First, we went to see the exterior of the Colosseum- since it was so close to our apartment- and then, onto the Roman Forum. We wrapped up the day walking around the neighborhoods surrounding our apartment and enjoyed some of the most amazing brick oven fired pizza I’ve ever had.

Wednesday was our ‘power day’ meaning we were fully refreshed and our feet weren’t yet tired. We followed a walking tour to the Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, Pantheon, Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi in the Piazza Navona and Santa Maria della Concezione dei Cappuccini crypt that was both erie and fascinating. We wound our way back through the tour checking out the sites at night and miraculously found ourself in a dark, locals only spot for dinner. It was a perfect day.

Thursday, we purchased tickets to explore Vatican City but first checked out the interior of the Colosseum  (for some reason it was closed on Tuesday and Wednesday). I was simply astounded by the history, artwork and wealth the Catholic Church has in the city-state. Seeing the paintings and sculptures I learned about in art history was awe-inspiring.

So, all-in-all a very busy but amazing trip. Amazingly, we were able to see all of the major sites but I must say, our feet were tired and we fell asleep each night within minutes. We will most definitely be back.
